ADP Regional Employment Report: Growth Rates in Most Large States Slow from September to October with the Exception of California

Pacific Region Generates Largest Number of Jobs in October and Shares Strongest Monthly Job Growth Rate with Mountain Region

Highlights

Note: Employment by state is determined by the state location of the worker’s payroll. In most cases, this approach aligns with the Bureau of Labor Statistics' measure of establishment employment, reflecting the state where an employee works. In some cases, a payroll located in a certain state may include employees from one or more states outside that state.

“U.S. regional and state private sector employment growth eased in October, as most regions and states measured showed smaller job gains than in previous months this year. The Pacific region generated the largest number of new private sector jobs during the month of October and, together with the Mountain region, also recorded the strongest monthly growth rate,” said Ahu Yildirmaz, senior director of the ADP Research Institute®. “Meanwhile, at the state level, job growth was mostly slower among heavily populated states in all regions with the exception of California.”
